Blauberg SIL-1250 Ventilation Interlock System

Advanced Gas Safety Panel with Built-in Fan Current Monitoring – BS 6173 Compliant

The Blauberg SIL-1250 is a premium ventilation interlock system specifically developed for commercial kitchens requiring reliable, compliant gas safety control. Building on the capabilities of the SIL-1200, the SIL-1250 features integrated current sensing for direct fan monitoring—eliminating the need for external air pressure switches.

It is fully compliant with British Standard BS 6173, which mandates that gas appliances must not operate unless mechanical ventilation is proven. The SIL-1250 ensures this by constantly verifying fan operation either through built-in current monitoring or optional pressure differential switches.

This system is ideal for environments where DW/172 kitchen ventilation standards, Gas Safe compliance and fail-safe gas shut-off mechanisms are required.

Key Features

  • Complies with BS 6173:2009 for commercial kitchen gas safety.
  • Built-in current monitoring for supply and extract fans (20A max).
  • Supports both fan current detection and pressure switch inputs.
  • Volt-free outputs for BMS integration (N/O, N/C, COM).
  • Emergency shut-off functionality with support for remote buttons.
  • Fire alarm connection to shut off gas in emergency events.
  • LED indicators for system status, fan faults and service mode.
  • Service override mode for maintenance (4-hour gas-on window).

How It Works

The SIL-1250 ensures gas is only available when the kitchen's mechanical ventilation is fully operational. It does this by directly monitoring electrical current drawn by the fans, offering a more accurate and tamper-resistant alternative to traditional air pressure switches.

If ventilation is interrupted—due to a fan fault, fire alarm signal or emergency stop—the SIL-1250 automatically shuts off the gas solenoid valve, providing critical protection against gas-related incidents.

Ideal For:

  • New and retrofit commercial kitchens.
  • School kitchens, hospitals, care homes and canteens.
  • Installations requiring BS 6173 and DW/172 compliance.
  • Projects prioritising integrated current sensing over external switches.

Benefits:

  • Eliminates additional wiring and calibration required for pressure switches.
  • Enhances reliability and tamper resistance with built-in sensing.
  • Simplifies compliance for installers and commercial landlords.
  • Reduces maintenance requirements and improves safety diagnostics.

System Integration:

  • Building Management Systems (BMS) via volt-free relay outputs.
  • Fire alarm systems using a volt-free trigger input.
  • Remote emergency shut-off switches for enhanced kitchen safety.

LED Status Indicators:

  • Power: Confirms mains connection.
  • Gas On: Shows active gas supply.
  • Emergency Stop: Amber light when activated.
  • Supply/Extract Fan: Green (OK), flashing (fault).
  • Fan Fault: Amber if ventilation fails for 20+ seconds.
  • Service Mode: Green active, flashing when timeout is reached.

Compliance and Safety:

  • BS 6173:2009 – Gas safety interlocks for catering installations.
  • DW/172 – Commercial kitchen ventilation design guide.
  • Gas Safe Register guidelines for gas shut-off safety.
  • Industry best practices for fire alarm and BMS integration.
